May Readings in the Writing Center
The RISD Writing Center and Literary Arts & Studies have been uniting to bring you a series of faculty readings. This collaboration provides a rare chance to see what professors and colleagues work on outside of class. Readings in the Writing Center allow you to hear poetry, memoir, and other non-academic prose in the author’s own voice, then mingle over refreshments with fellow writers and readers.
Our May event featured Mairéad Byrne (LAS Professor) and Kyna Leski (Architecture Professor). Mairéad Byrne is the author of five poetry chapbooks, several collaborations with visual artists, and five poetry collections, including most recently You Have to Laugh: New + Selected Poems. She was also the cofounder, curator and emcee for couscous, a poetry/music/performance series that ran for five years in Providence. Kyna Leski has taught in the Architecture, Foundation Studies and Industrial Design departments at RISD. In her professional statement, she describes her creative process as a fluid interplay between forms and methods: “I dwell in uncertainty, follow poetry as a process, reason with material, construct, deconstruct and reconstruct — conceptual clarity appearing as a guide.”
