Alexia Kosmider


Alexia Kosmider’s academic interests are wide ranging from Native American Studies, American Literature, Queer Theory & Literature to Queer Cinema. She spent one year teaching Native Studies and American Literature in Wroclaw University, Poland as a Fulbright Scholar (2000). In addition to teaching, Alexia directs and produces documentary films that explore subjects previously misrepresented or overlooked by larger film companies. Her films include TransJourney (2013) Sappho’s Fire (2011) and Not Your Mama’s Roller Derby (2009). She was awarded a Fulbright travel grant in 2014 that allowed her to show Sappho’s Fire in seven cities in Poland, including Wroclaw and Warsaw. TransJourney premiered at the RI International Film Festival (2014) and was awarded an Audience Award at the Palm Springs LGBT Film Festival (2015). Her latest film project, Passages, retraces a 1960s road trip that Alexia and her two free-spirited lesbian grandmothers made in an Airstream trailer, traveling from Toledo, Ohio to a Rocky Mountain mining town.
